What we do on the first visit
Assess what is down there and whether any of it is a contamination issue requiring different handling. Rodent droppings and standing water change the scope and the protective equipment needed.
What comes out of a typical Wilmington crawl space
Fallen fiberglass batts are the most common single item, usually wet and usually holding a nest. After that: offcuts and packaging left by the original builder, previous torn liner, ductwork insulation that has failed, and in older homes decades of accumulated material from prior trades.
None of it can stay. Debris under a new liner is a puncture risk, wet insulation is a moisture reservoir, and animal contamination is a health question that a sheet of plastic does not resolve.
Rodent contamination needs different handling
Droppings and nesting material are not ordinary debris. Disturbing them dry aerosolises whatever is in them, which is why the work is done with appropriate respiratory protection and the material is wetted before removal rather than swept.
Where contamination is significant, removal is followed by treatment of the affected surfaces, and by sealing the entry points — otherwise the animals return to a cleaner space.
